Sia has had one hell of a year with “Chandelier” taking over airwaves and peaking at #1 on iTunes in a whopping 92 countries! The song is still doing its thing in a fair amount of European countries and while “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” (from the Annie OST) served as a nice filler single to keep the momentum going it seems the Australian songwriting genius has other ideas for the new year. Rumors have been flying for months now as to what her official second single from 1000 Forms of Fear would be, with online forums first speculating that “Burn The Pages” would be the one. “Big Girls Cry” was also thrown in the mix, with the track being serviced to radio in France, but not really anywhere else. I for one had hoped for my album favorite “Fire Meets Gasoline” to get the nod but nevertheless her label has picked a great track to follow on from “Chandelier” and I believe the song has great potential to be a hit for her.
Originally included in the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack last year, “Elastic Heart” (another favorite of mine!) will be going to radio early in the new year. The Diplo produced hit showcases Sia executing an emotional anthemic vocal over an alt-pop beat that is sure to resonate with the masses given the correct visual. “Elastic Heart” – similarly to some of the other tracks Sia has written in recent years (“Diamonds” by Rihanna, “Perfume” by Britney Spears) – showcases a darker side to Sia’s songwriting which was rather chipper on her debut single with RCA Records. I’ve got a feeling that the track is going to do well and I look forward to seeing how it progresses as we kick off 2015. Don’t forget that Sia has a bunch of nominations at the 2015 Grammy Awards, so there is much to look forward to and it’s worth keeping an eye on her in the coming months!
