In recent times, South Africa has been privileged enough to host a number of class acts from the international hip hop scene. Cast your mind back to 2011 when hip hop sensation Lil Wayne graced South African soils with his “I am still music” tour coupled with the likes of Rick Ross and later followed by hip hop legend Eminem. One can’t neglect Nicki Minaj’s recent “Pink Print” tour in South Africa as she performed in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Those who were privileged enough to attend any of these three tours would agree that they were absolute spectacles.

As an avid hip hop listener myself, I sat convincing myself that I shall no longer attend anymore concerts for at least one year. Money needs to be saved! Those plans were quickly thrown out the window when Castle Lite recently announced the coming of Jermaine Lamarr Cole, better known by his stage name J.Cole. Following the success of his solo platinum studio album 2014 Forest Hills Drive (the first hip hop album without any features to go platinum in 25 years), J.Cole has not only solidified his status as a lyricist highlighting political and racial issues in America, but has also been compared to the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Nas, and the very same person who discovered him, Jay Z.

J. Cole is set to perform on 18 June 2016 for a one night only experience at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg. The German born, American hip hop artist is no stranger to South African shores. In 2012, we had the opportunity to witness J.Cole perform at the Big Brother Africa opening ceremony. Four years later, there is no telling what the hip hop sensation will bring to these parts, but all we know is that it will be an evening to remember. Cole World!
